CLUB TIME AT DESERT TORAH ACADEMY
The school day is long at DTA, starting at 8:30 and ending at 4:00 pm. Nevertheless, on Wednesday’s students are ready to stay for another hour. That’s because Wednesday is club day at Desert Torah Academy.
Morah Dina Harlig, director of DTA commented, “For many years now, clubs have been one of the most favorite activities at our school. We try hard to provide a wide range of choices, geared not only to different ages, but also to different types of children. Some of our students want to do physical activities and some want a chance to use their creative skills.”
In keeping with Morah Dina’s statement, DTA students are being offered the choice of six clubs this year. The clubs are:
1. Soccer Club. For all 2nd – 4th grade students. Soccer is coached by Mr. Yechiel Sudranski.
2. Basketball Club. For boys in the 5th – 8th grade. Basketball club is led by Coach Benji, DTA’s PE teacher.
3. Art Club. For all students. Art club is led by Mrs. Rachel Ofier who is also a teaching assistant at DTA.
4. Chess and Backgammon Club. For all students. This club is led by Mrs. Goldie Scheinman, a devoted parent and Morah Shoshana Kinn who also serves as DTA’s Judaic Nursery teacher.
5. Yearbook: For DTA’s middle school students. Yearbook leaders are Morah Esther Bayla and Morah Sarah, two of DTA’s most popular teachers.
6. Girl Scouts. For girls in third grade and older. The scout troop leaders are Mrs. Sami Bernal and Mrs. Schiff.
Morah Dina concluded, “I really appreciate the time and effort our club leaders are devoting to our students. The children are really enjoying all of the clubs. Club time is one of the most popular activities at DTA.”
