The entire DTA family, parents, teachers and students alike are anxiously awaiting the completion of the school’s new campus. The new school will be housed on Vista Drive and is adjacent to the school’s present facility on Arville. Once the new campus is completed, the entire Arville facility will be dedicated to Chabad outreach and synagogue activities.
The first step in building the new school was to acquire two additional properties on Vista Dr. These properties were adjacent to Chabad’s original synagogue on Vista Drive. The past July All three properties were totally demolished leaving a large 3 acre site for the new campus.
Construction which began in August has been proceeding at a rapid pace and most of the foundation and pad will be finished by just after Thanksgiving. On a recent sunny Tuesday afternoon, DTA’s administration toured the construction site to get a first hand view of the new building’s progress. The group consisted of Rabbi Shea Harlig, Executive Director of Chabad of Southern Nevada and Dean of DTA, Mrs. Dina Harlig, the School’s director, Rabbi Moishe Rodman, the schools principal and Dr. Phyllis Meckley, principle of secular studies. Rabbi Harlig commented, “I am really so pleased with the progress we have made in building our new campus. The goal is to be in the new building by the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year.
When completed, the new, two story building will be over 65,000 square feet. There will be twenty classrooms, a computer lab, science lab, library, audio-visual center and full, indoor gym. Rabbi Rodman added “One of the things that really excites me about the new campus is that there will be much more work space for our teachers. The twenty classrooms will be divided into ten, two classroom modules and each module will have a separate work station. We are also equipping each of our classrooms with a “smart board” so that we can expand on our distance learning program.”
