CLUB TIME IS FUN TIME AT DESERT TORAH ACADEMY

Extracurricular activities are a very important part of any school’s program. Desert Torah Academy is very proud of the many fun and enriching activities that it provides for its students. One of these activities, Club Time, has just started its second session.

Club Time is held every Wednesday from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. This session,  students may choose from one of five clubs. Basketball Club is run by Coach Benji and Mr. Yechiel Sudranski. Coach Benji has been DTA’s PE teacher for the past 12 years and is one of the Chabad School’s most popular teachers. Students in Coach Benji’s club have noted a marked improvement in their basketball skills.

Art Club is led by Ms. Wetzler, DTA’s art and computer teacher. Ms. Wetzler is known for her creativity and imagination. She likes to combine her computer and art talents to help her students create unique projects. A recent success has been the beautiful Chanukah cards that her students enjoyed making.

Chess Club is being led by school principal, Rabbi Moishe B. Rodman. The Rabbi stated, “I enjoy running the Chess Club, but I can’t take any of our student’s skills for granted. I was recently beaten in a tough match by 5th grader, Alex Shmuelevitch. Alex is a real chess whiz.”

One of the new clubs this year is Girl Scouts. DTA is very proud to have a troop in this world renowned organization. Troop leaders, Ms. Bernal (DTA’s 2nd grade teacher) and Mrs. Sheri Schiff (volunteer and former teacher) have both trained as troop leaders. The new troop hopes to participate in a variety of scouting activity that will help the young ladies build character and skills while having a great time.

DTA’s last club is Yearbook. The 8th grade graduates really appreciate the fact that they are putting the yearbook together from “A to Z”. Of course Morah Esther Bayla and Morah Sarah are great year book coordinators and the students really appreciate their help.
