DESERT TORAH ACADEMY’S NEW CAMPUS NEARLY COMPLETE
As the beginning of the new school year looms, the final touches on DTA’s new campus are happening at “light year pace.” Rochel Ramstetter, Executive Administrator of Chabad, recently took the school administration on a guided tour of the almost completed building. First stop on the tour was the Early Childhood wing. The entrance to the wing is framed by a brightly colored sign indicating the preschool’s name, “Torah Tots”. The walls are painted with flowery designs that will both enthrall and calm the three and four year old students. The ECE section also has its own multipurpose room and playground and large, spacious, classrooms.
The next stop on the tour was the school’s main entrance. Both the inner and outer walls are framed with stunning Jerusalem stone. A magnificent archway divides the school’s younger and older grades. The administrative wing also includes a nurse’s station, offices and a conference room. The tasteful furnishings are being installed as this article is being written. The highlight of the tour, of course, was the fully equipped gym. The basketball hoops and the scoreboard are already in and the floor is nearing completion. DTA plans to host a number of leagues out of its new facility.
The group next moved on to the second floor. As educators, they were most pleased with the classroom setup. Each two room pod comes equipped with a separate work area for teachers, a conference room that can be used for tutoring students, a smart board and a large computer station. They were also happy to see that most of the classroom furniture has arrived, including desks, chairs, and cubbies.
The last stop on the tour was at the new library, science and computer labs, and art room. Each of these areas is almost complete and filled with state of the art equipment and furniture. The administrators were also thrilled with the student lounge and game room. If the adults liked it, image how happy the students will be.
The mission of Desert Torah is to provide the Jewish children of Southern Nevada with an outstanding Judaic/Hebrew and Secular education. DTA staff will help promote students’ growth as active learners; respectful, responsible citizens; and independent thinkers. Through a stimulating and safe learning environment, our students will grow in appreciation of Jewish tradition and culture while being prepared for success in high school and life in the world community. DTA is proud to be accredited by the National Council for Private School Accreditation and the National Accreditation Board of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch.
